Green Hysland x H2Ports Webinar: Decarbonising the Maritime Sector

On the 5th of October 2022, our second webinar took place, co-organised with H2Ports. Watch the recording and download the slides to learn all about the programmes and best practices to decarbonise ports, ferries and other maritime applications in your region.

Maritime transport plays an essential role in the EU economy. 77 % of European external trade is moved by sea – 35 % of all trade by value between EU Member States (source: emis). For EU islands, this sector is even more critical, as it is their lifeline in order to ensure tourism, connectivity with the mainland, and access to essential goods. Yet, emissions in the field continue to grow and vessels are still predominantly using fossil fuels as their energy source.

The Green Hysland and H2Ports H2020 projects, both co-funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, have joining forces for an exclusive webinar in order to present their work on the use of fuel cells and hydrogen (FCH) technologies to decarbonise the ports of Palma de Mallorca and Valencia, in Spain. They have also invited other speakers to share guidance and best practices on how to cut down emissions in the sector, and how to replace fossil fuels by clean alternatives to power ferries and other vessels.

About Green Hysland

Green Hysland aims to deploy a fully-functioning Hydrogen (H2) ecosystem in the island of Mallorca, Spain, turning the island into Europe’s first H2 hub in Southern Europe. This will be achieved by producing green hydrogen from solar energy and delivering it to the end users, such as the island’s tourism, transport, industry and energy sectors, including gas grid injection for green heat and power local end-use.

About H2Ports

The H2Ports project will demonstrate and validate at the Port of Valencia in real port operations two innovative solutions based on FC technologies and a hydrogen mobile supply station specifically designed for the project. A Reach Stacker to be tested in MSC Terminal Valencia and a Yard Tractor to be tested in Valencia Terminal Europa (part of Grimaldi’s group) have been selected as those specially fitted to the use of Fuel Cells in port facilities.
